Located south of sikkim in north Bengal is the famous hill resort of Darjeeling at an altitude of 2150m (6,800 ft). its borders with west: Average temperature during summers is around 20c and 10c during winters. Darjeeling experiences heavy monsoon between June to August when visitors are advised to bring waterproofs/umbrellas as long with winter clothing. Darjeeling is famous for its tea garden which produce premium Darjeeling tea also known as the Champagne of the East. Darjeeling with its natural beauty provides a wide variety of activities from liesurely scenic walks to more gruelling activities such as trekking and river rafting for the adventurous ones.

High Seasons -

The two high seasons are between April and June, and from October to December. During these months the mountains are clearly visible especially if you are an early riser! You will need to bring warm clothes throughout the year but particularly from November onwards when the temperature starts to drop, although it rarely gets below freezing. However there is a wide range of cold weather gear for sale everywhere in Darjeeling, from hand-knitted Tibetan sweaters to imported down jackets.

Climate -

As the oldest and many say the best hill station in India, Darjeeling was an extremely popular destination in the time of the British Raj. The wonderfully cool climate, clear brisk air and the breathtaking views of the Himalayas drew the British here to escape the stifling heat of Kolkota. It is still a very popular place for honey-mooners, trekkers and others seeking to escape from the oppressive build up of heat on the plains before and after the monsoon season: the climate is temperate with temperatures ranging only between 12 and 25 in the summer and between 1.5 and 10 degrees during the winter. 1.5 and 24 degrees.

How to Reach Darjeeling -

By Air
Bagdogra situated at 90kms from the hill station and 10kms from Siliguri is the nearest airport which has good access to all the prime cities by domestic airlines. One has to hire a taxi or a jeep from Bagdogra to reach Darjeeling.
By Rail
Though Darjeeling has a railway station but no other train but only the toy trains from New Jalpaiguri and Jalpaiguri come to this station. One can get direct trains to Varanasi, Delhi, Varanasi and other prime cities from New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri located at a distance of 88kms and 80 kms from Darjeeling.
By Road
Darjeeling has good motorable roads linking it to other places. The State Transport which runs from Kolkata is linked with other places like Siliguri, Bagdigra,Gangtok atc. Private coaches also regularly run.
